On his first album as a leader Juanma Trujillo presents a set of original music (and one composition by one of the band members) that creates environments for improvising that are set up to keep both the subject matter of the compositions and collective dynamics of the group at the center.
The musicians on the date are, Los Angeles based trumpeter Brandon Sherman and bassist Emilio Terranova, both of which have been close associates of Trujillo for over a decade. And drummer Matt Honor from Brooklyn, NY who has collaborated with Trujillo in many different projects since his arrival in NY. All four players contribute strong and nuanced performances of the compositions.
Recorded in a single session in March 2017, El Vecino is an intriguing debut from a musician who's worthy of keeping an eye on.
